Because the skin under the eyes is exceptionally thin, it is completely normal to experience some initial, mild swelling. When it comes to the delicate under-eye area, a “less is more” approach is always best. The under-eye area can seem intimidating, but the treatment is surprisingly comfortable. Restylane Eyelight is formulated with lidocaine to numb the area from the inside out. To maximize safety and minimize discomfort, our expert injectors typically use a blunt-tipped micro-cannula rather than a sharp needle. This advanced technique dramatically reduces pain and significantly lowers the risk of bruising, making the experience very tolerable.
There is no medical downtime required, and you can resume normal daily activities right away. However, because the skin under the eyes is incredibly thin and heavily vascular, you should anticipate some “social downtime.” Mild swelling, tenderness, and bruising are common and can take anywhere from a few days to two weeks to fully resolve. We highly recommend scheduling your treatment at least two weeks before any important events or photoshoots.
You should not receive this treatment if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 21 years of age. It is also contraindicated for those with severe allergies to lidocaine, bleeding disorders, or active skin infections. Importantly: Restylane Eyelight is designed to treat hollowing (volume loss). If your dark circles are caused entirely by skin pigmentation (genetics) or if you have severe, protruding under-eye fat pads rather than hollows, filler may not be the right solution, and your injector may recommend an alternative approach.
